Bright Lights || Alex & Izzie
drfratboyalex:
“I won’t hurt you, Iz,” he told her with a a smug smile. “I’d never do that to you again. Or at least I’ll try.” He told her, brushing her hair with his hands. “It’s only been a few hours and I already want to get the hell out of this hospital. It’s making me sick,” he sighed in annoyance, “Being with you makes it bearable though,” he told her smiling. And it really did. Just having Izzie around lightened his mood up completely.
“It’s okay. My family’s screwed up. Eventually every chick I’m with goes nuts or dies or something,” he mumbled. “It’s whatever. I don’t care,” he said, a little too coldly. “You know, me and Lexie were dating? Yeah, well after the shooting, she went all psycho and started yelling at patients. She was admitted to the psych ward. That’s why we ended. I seriously think something about me literally makes all women go crazy— Not in a good way,” he added flatly. It all came together now, and it was true. Alex repelled women, but at the same time, he managed to sleep with so many of them. It was odd.
“God, Iz,” he said, gasping as she said that she missed him more than George. Alex took his stronger hand and sat up for a moment, pulling Izzie in for a passionate kiss. It was the only logical thing to do after she told her that. “I’ll try to,” he said pulling away from the kiss and leaning in to give her another. “I love you, Iz,” he said, finally pulling away from her. He rested his bruised forehead against hers and stared into her eyes with a thoughtful expression worn on his face. “I love you so much,” he said softly, closing his eyes for a moment, using that free moment to capture that moment in his mind before opening his eyes and staring into hers.
“Yeah well, it happens,” She replied, remembering how it felt being stuck inside her room all day long. “You should start knitting. That’s what I did. I made Bailey a scarf.” Izzie smiled inwardly at the thought of Alex knitting. “Oh, and I also tried to make chitchat with every nurse and intern who came inside my room. Oh, and Dr. Bailey too. You know, she doesn’t look like it, but she did really talk to me. Maybe she felt bad for me or something, but she still made small talk with me every time she came inside my room. If you get bored, you should page her.” Izzie added.
Izzie shook her head. “No. My family is screwed up. We didn’t have any money, my mother spent my college funds. Your family is beyond that. It’s awful.” Izzie blurt out. A lot of the stories Alex had told her about his family made Izzie’s skin shiver. “And the thing with Rebecca, and me, I mean— that’s awful too.” Izzie couldn’t help but to feel slightly jealous, that feeling soon vanished, however, when he told her she had been admitted to the psych ward. “Lexie? Seriously? Wow.” Izzie shook her head. “Nah. I don’t think it’s you. Maybe bad luck? Like, really, really bad luck.” The awful family, and the bunch of women who had gone crazy, and the shooting thing, and the car thing. That had to be bad luck. “Maybe it will end at some point. Maybe in ten years you’ll be insanely happy. That can happen, right? I mean— the bad luck. It has to end, doesn’t it?”
Izzie kissed him back, passionately. He always managed to make her skin shiver with that kind of kisses. He managed to take her breath away. Literally. She smiled warmly as he pressed his forehead against hers, and looked into his eyes deeply. “I love you, too. So much. You have no idea.” Her heart was beating rapidly, she leaned on to place another kiss on his lips. “Maybe our bad luck ends now?” She asked sheepishly, as she kept staring at his eyes. She loved his eyes. “Or maybe not, maybe we’ll have to work hard to make this work. Either way, I’m still sticking around. Remember that.” She added, smiling slightly.

Bright Lights || Alex & Izzie
drfratboyalex:
“Hey now,” Alex chuckled. “I could so take you down. Maybe not right now, but I could,” he grinned and laughed again as she mentioned when she had tried to fight Callie. “Oh, damn. Yeah. I definitely remember,” he said, wincing as he laughed due to the soreness of his body. “That’s funny. Cute,” he said grinning widely. All the memories suddenly came flooding back to him and he furrowed his brow, and frowned.
“Iz,” he began softly. “I miss the way things used to be,” he sighed. “I miss when we were all just interns and when we weren’t having to deal with the crap we deal with now,” he sighed guiltily. It seemed like that’s when stuff was good. That’s when it was okay. Then you got sick and it all screwed up from there. I mean, hell, sometimes I even miss O’Malley. And I didn’t like the dude,” Alex shrugged. “Nostalgia, I guess,” he shrugged, trying to push the memories far away from his mind. They were something Jackson hated, especially when Izzie was gone. He hated thinking about the past because then he’d think about Iz and how she was gone.
The only good thing that came out of Izzie being sick was their wedding, honestly. And that was about it. The rest was all a load of crap, in Alex’s opinion. It had ruined everything. Part of him wondered if Izzie hadn’t of gotten cancer where they’d be now. Would they still be married? Have kids? Or would they go back to slowly loathing each other and seeing other people? Alex shook his head. It was almost impossible to move on from Izzie. The only person that Alex felt a connection similar to Izzie’s since she had left was Lucy— And that was all crap now. It’s all been crap until Izzie came back again.
“Yeah, probably.. That doesn’t mean I can’t try anyway.” Izzie chuckled. “Oh, you wouldn’t hurt me. You love me too much to do so.” Izzie shifted on the bed. “I know.” She sighed deeply. “It’s like we take one step forward and two steps back. We try and try and then it suddenly falls appart. We never see it coming. That’s why I am scared. Because now that we’re fine, I often have the feeling we’ll do something or say something, and we’ll be back were we started off. Hating our guts.” It was weird to be telling him, things that she usually kept to herself.
“I always felt bad because I put you through hell and back when I got sick. It wasn’t fair for you, you had to take care of your mother, and then Rebecca, I didn’t want you to have to take care of me, too. And then we started rushing things up. We jumped into a marriage that didn’t work, I left, and I came back, and you told me you wanted me to go. And now I came back. And I mean— We’re older. I think we can make things work this time. ” Izzie had no idea why she was rabling so much. She had started and now she just had to keep going. What she was saying wasn’t making much sence anyways. Those were just thoughts that popped into her mind and that she needed to get out of herself. In the past, she would have told that to George, or Meredith, but now she had no one.
“You told me to go. And I missed you. I missed you more than what I missed George, and I hated myself for that, because George was dead. You were just.. moving on. Yet, I missed you more than what I missed George. Because I love you more than what I loved George, and I love you more than what I loved Denny. I broke up with Denny for you. Well, not actually Denny, my hallucination of Denny, but yet I did.” Izzie glanced at Alex. “I guess what I want to say is, I don’t know if this will work. But I’ willing to try.” She rolled her eyes, and grinned slightly “Please, Please shut me up.”

“How did this happen? Why did we end up here? Why am I alone? Where’s Denny? - You’re not alone, Iz.”
Bright Lights || Alex & Izzie
drfratboyalex:
“I— I don’t remember,” Alex said, slightly puzzled, overworking his brain to remember. He struggled to remember what had happened afterwards. He remembered lying there, staring up at a paramedic and a woman to the side. Her front shield was crushed— Probably from the force that Alex had hit it with. “Yeah. I think she’s the one that called 911. She looked pretty scared,” he said, shrugging. He shook his head. Women drivers, he joked in his head, chuckling lightly.
Alex shifted uncomfortably at the mention of Denny. Denny Duquette, a man he secretly loathed. Well, actually, there was no secret about it. Izzie loved him, and Alex was jealous. Plain as can be. The thing that bothered Alex the most was that Izzie hallucinated him when she had cancer. The whole rush of memories hit him in the chest hard, and he didn’t know Izzie mentioning her cancer could almost bring him to tears. So, instead of continuing on with the subject, he skipped it, and answered her about Meredith.
“I think Mer will love it,” he told her, smiling warmly. “I think she’ll freakin’ love it. She’s missed you. We all have. We missed you so much. It’s insane. I’m pretty sure Yang even missed you, and that’s saying a lot,” he laughed. “It’s cold,” he said, slowly grabbing the blanket from the edge of the head and fumbling to place it over themselves. “There.” He said, shivering lightly.
“Court date it is. But we’ll have to wait till my face doesn’t look all screwed up and I can actually walk again,” he said, raising his brows. “Then we can do the court date. The judge might think you’re beating me,” he joked, grinning widely. “I don’t think you’re capable though. You couldn’t. You wouldn’t hurt a thing,” he laughed, remembering the time she’d decided she could save a deer after it’d been hit by a car. It was true. Izzie was completely harmless.
“Oh well, good.” She said. At least she stopped. She thought, slightly relieved. “You think?” She said, as a wide smile lit up her face. “I’ve missed them, too. So much. Well, everything really.” She shrugged. She had never stopped missing Seattle Grace. Having to leave had been probably one of the most difficult things she had ever done. But now she was back, and it felt right. She wouldn’t get involved with another patient now that she was mentally married to Alex Karev, and commited for once, and she wouldn’t screw up and get herself fired again. Or at the very least, she wholeheartedly hoped she wouldn’t.
Izzie nodded. “Yeah, that’s okay.” She laughed. “Well, if you get yourself hit by a car for drinking again, I might just start beating you up.” She joked. “And I grew up in a trailer park so, believe me, you won’t like it.” She added, giggling when she remembered he had wrestled in high school. She remembered that the time when she had tried to fight Callie she had made a fool out of herself in front of attendings, residents, interns and nurses.
“Okay, so that’s probably not the smartest idea. You’d totally win. Besides, I don’t exactly know how to fight. Remember when Callie just wanted to talk to me and I thought she would hit me? She called me a bitch after that. Another reason why I shouldn’t go for Ortho though.” She chuckled. “How is she, by the way?” She asked, changing the subject. “God, I embarrassed myself so many times in this hospital already.” She smiled. “I mean—I ripped my clothes off in front on you and like 23 other residents.” Izzie remembered.

Bright Lights || Alex & Izzie
drfratboyalex:
“Alright,” Alex mumbled with a soft chuckle. “It’s not like I plan on getting drunk anytime soon anyway,” he joked. “And if I do, I’ll call you,” he reassured her. He felt horrible, even though this technically wasn’t Alex’s fault. It wasn’t his fault a car hit him randomly. Alex couldn’t even see it from where he was, but he still shouldn’t have been so reckless and careless. He had somehow managed to hurt Izzie once more, but this time, he honestly didn’t mean to.
“You can have dreams like that. Just take lots of pain meds,” he joked again. His humor was lightening up and Alex knew this was his first small step towards recovery. His body still ached and he had to refrain from laughing sometimes because it hurt too much, but at least there was a reason to laugh, he thought to himself. He was shocked by his overly positive thoughts. Alex wasn’t the type of guy to be an optimist. That was usually Izzie’s job. She was bright, happy— Optimistic. Alex? He was like the male version of Meredith 6 years ago.
“You need to go find them,” he told Izzie, knowing she’d have to face them soon enough. “Just not right now,” he laughed, pulling her close. “At least we got in a good date before this happened,” he said. “I mean, now I don’t think I’ll be able to take you out for a few months,” he said softly. “But that’s okay. I guess. We can do stuff at home. Can’t promise I’ll be very active though,” he sighed deeply, wishing this hadn’t of happened to him. He struggled to find the right words or actions to say next, but he simply couldn’t. He just reflected back on his and Izzie’s past relationship.
She was back for good, and Alex was finally starting to believe it. This whole time Alex had thought that Izzie was probably just going to leave again, and he hated that he lacked faith in her, but he was realizing now that she was staying. They had both grown up over the time they spent apart. Alex was still an ass— That would probably never change, but Izzie seemed more mature now. Emotionally. She seemed like she was ready to take this seriously and Alex was willing to try again. “Iz,” he said softly. “I think we should get married again. Maybe not the whole wedding thing again. Ours was perfect, but just the court thing. I mean— I want you to be my wife and crap,” he said casually. “I mean— We don’t have to. It’s whatever,” he said.
Izzie giggled slightly. “Good. You better not.” She replied, as she looked to her right. Her eyes met his. “Can I ask,” The smile on her face vanished for a moment. “When the car hit you.. Did the driver stop? Did he or she help you?” She asked. She was trying to picture it inside her mind, which probably wasn’t the best idea, but she couldn’t help it. She had a hyperactive mind, it was hard to switch it off sometimes. “I shouldn’t have gotten mad.” She admitted. “I can be a little stubborn sometimes. Impulsive. But I’m guessing you know that already?”
“Yeah,” She laughed. “I may try that someday. Actually, last time I did I dreamed I had my pink dress on. The one I was wearing when Denny well, anyways, and I was walking to the elevator. George was there. It was weird, mostly because I was dying at the moment. That’s why, I wish I could dream with things like that. You and I, and a house of our own, kids. It would be awesome. Better.” She told him, smiling brightly. “Oh, I know. I know! I can honestly say I tried to find them today. That’s a start, I guess. Right?” She chuckled. “Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere right now. I’m better off here.” She was comfortable like that. Her heartbeats had slowed down to normal. She was breathing quietly. She was good.
“Yeah, it was great.” She nodded. “Oh, I don’t mind. We’ll have fun at home. We always did.” She cocked up a grin, “I’ll have to talk to Meredith first though. It’s her house, after all.” She said. “But I will. I won’t run way anymore, I will actually talk to her.” She decided. “What do you think she’ll say? Do you think she’ll be okay with it? Last time I saw her I told her this was just a place where I worked and it didn’t mean anything to me. I think she got mad.” She sighed. “On the other hand, that was years ago. Maybe she won’t be mad, maybe she’ll be glad to see me. Or maybe not..” She thought out loud. “I don’t know.”
Izzie smiled warmly. “I’d like that. Just the court thing. We already had the big wedding, and it was amazing. We don’t need that again. I just, I want to be your wife again. I want you to be my husband again. So yeah, I think we should. I’d like that.” She placed a small kiss on his lips. “You’re sure, right? I mean, i don’t want to rush you into anything.” She told him softly.

Bright Lights || Alex & Izzie
drfratboyalex:
Alex stared up at the ceiling blankly. He realized that he’d made Izzie upset, but it was the typical way she would react. Alex would be mad at Izzie if the same thing happened to her. “I know, I know,” he sighed. “I was just.. I had too much to drink and I wanted to go back to the hospital and find you. Besides, if you had to go pick up your drunk husband— Err— Boyfriend from a bar, you’d probably be just as mad,” he chuckled and shrugged.
“Yeah. In the dream we got married and we lived in Meredith’s house, but she didn’t live there anymore. We had two little boys. Blonde hair, and you were pregnant,” he chuckled at the idea, shaking his head. Alex had never honestly thought too much about being a dad. It was all weird. Alex figured he’d make a horrible father one day, but if Izzie ever wanted kids, he would give them to her, just to make her happy.
“It was weird,” he said, snuggling up close to her, wincing slightly at the soreness in his body. “I’m sorry,” he apologized once more, giving her a kiss again. “I love you,” he told her, hoping that would lighten the mood a little more. He sighed, closing his eyes for a moment, breathing in her scent for a few moments before he finally brought up another topic. “So, have you seen anyone else? Besides Shepherd and Bailey?” he asked curiously, eager to know about her encounters with her old friends.
Izzie sighed. “No, actually, I wouldn’t be as mad.” She replied. “It would have been better than this, Don’t you think?” She couldn’t help but giggle when he said husband. it felt weird to call him a boyfriend. He meant so much more to her. “Wait, you wanted to find me?” She asked. Guilt was kicking in her sistem again, and now it had a reason to. Or so she thought.
She listened to him speak, and a wide, big smile spread across her face. “Oh, wow.” She chuckled. “Really? That’s sweet. I wish I could dream with things like that.” She pressed her lips against his. Now it was technicallly impossible for her to be mad anymore. Not after he told her that. “It’s okay. Next time, call. I won’t be mad. Or at least, I’ll try my best not to be.” She nodded. “I can’t lose you now, I just got you back!” She chuckled slightly.
“I love you, too.” She added. “No uh, as I’ guessing you can tell, I’ve been pretty busy today.” She smiled. “Actually earlier on I watched one of Cristina’s surgeries. She’s pretty amazing though. I meant to talk to her when she finished, but right in the middle of it Bailey came and she told me— so I couldn’t. And Meredith, well, I didn’t see her. I’m guessing she was at the surgical floor, because I was giving stitches two floors down.”

Bright Lights || Alex & Izzie
drfratboyalex:
Alex sat there silently with a small smile on her face as he listened to Izzie speak. She was talking a lot, like usual, but it was good just because Alex wasn’t usually the talking type, and when Izzie spoke, it was always lovely. He smiled at her before finally deciding to speak. “I feel better. Nothing hurts anymore. And yeah, I won’t have to work which means you’ll have to bake me stuff,” he grinned sheepishly, wrapping his weak arm around her body.
He sat there in silence for a few moments, soaking in all that had just happened to him over the past week. Izze came back. They were together again. He got hit by a car. He lived. They were together again. It was like a never endng cycle and Alex was tired of all the trials that life seemed to launch at Alex and Izzie together. It was like something didn’t want them together, but he didn’t care. He wanted Izzie, and he planned on being with her forever.
“I was drunk,” he admitted quietly. “Leaving Joe’s. I was drunk. I think that’s why I got hit. It was my fault,” he said letting out a sigh, bracing himself for whatever Izzie’s reaction would end up being.
He lied there silently. “I’m sorry we always go through stuff like this,” he whispered, giving her a kiss. “I’m really sorry. So sorry. I can’t even begin to explain,” he said brushing her hair away. “I’m glad you’re here, Iz. It all seems unreal. I had a dream while I was sleeping about you,” he said, hoping to lighten the mood a little.
Izzie smiled brightly. “That’s good. That’s really good.” She said, happy that he wasn’t as hurt as before anymore. She nodded her head positively. “Mhmm. Yes, sir. Of course I’ll bake for you.” She pursed her lips, remembering when he made her a cake for her birthday. She snapped herself out of the thought again. She had no idea why all these memories were going through her mind. She guessed part of her was still shocked of the whole thing and needed to stop, and think about something else for brief moments.
“Seriously?” She asked, biting her lower lip. She was a little mad, she couldn’t help it. She probably shouldn’t have been. She was still trying to make things right with him, but part of her was angry and she couldn’t help but to show it. She stayed silent for a few seconds, and frowned a bit. “You- Seriously?” What are you doing? Izzie thought through it and shook the anger out of her rapidly. “It’s okay. I’m sorry. I’m just a little freaked out. Oh, and kinda scared as well.” She admited. “You, Alex Karev, are an idiot. And you shouldn’t have. But I can’t be mad at you.”
Izzie placed a small kiss over his neck, and wrapped her arm over his chest. “I love you. Don’t ever do that again. Just, call me or something. I can take you home” She added.
“It’s not your fault. It’s destiny, or something.” Izzie shook her head, she didn’t exactly know what she was talking about anymore. “I’m glad I can be here too, I would have never forgiven myself if I hadn’t.” She smiled at him. “Really? Was it a good one?” She asked, curiously.

Bright Lights || Alex & Izzie
drfratboyalex:
Alex slept very well, and he slept for what felt like to be a very long, long time, because when he woke up, he saw Izzie had fallen asleep. Half in her chair and half on the bed beside him. Alex used all of the muscles he had to scoot as far away from the edge of the bed as possible, onto the other side, and slowly called Izzie. “Iz,” he said softly. “Come on, up,” he told her, making room for her to come lay up there with him. He figured she’d be more comfortable that way, and honestly, Alex figured he’d be more comfortable and feel better with her lying beside him.
After Izzie finally agreed, Alex lied there, and slowly, the rhythm of their breaths matched each other; the pace slowed, and before he knew it, both of them were asleep again. This time, Alex did dream once more. It was more of a memory anyway. Alex stood up in the altar, watching as Izzie slowly made her way to him. “Today’s the day my life begins,” Alex said in his dream and watched as a smile spread across Izzie’s face. The dream changed this time. They were older and had a house similar to Meredith’s. Was it Meredith’s? He couldn’t tell in the dream. But there were two little blonde kids running around the house and Izzie’s belly had grown, which led him to think there was another on the way.
Alex suddenly woke up and blinked hard, looking over at Izzie who was still sleeping. The pain had definitely eased and now all he felt was the soreness that was expected after such a big injury. Alex shifted as best as he could and placed his hand over Izzie’s hair, brushing it slowly. He kissed the back of her head before looking over at the door. A nurse was standing there, smiling as she watched them. Alex was a little freaked out, but was too tired and sore to make any smart-ass remark to her.
She walked in, and checked on Alex. He was as good as he was expected to be and she quickly shuffled out of the door, closing it on the way out. Alex hadn’t noticed, but he was no longer in the ICU, which led him to believe he was probably better. He had probably been switched while Izzie was still awake and Alex was sedated, but he couldn’t remember any of it and was too tired to remember. He looked over at Izzie, who was slowly shifting around in her spot. He waited for her to be fully awake before he gave her a weak smile. “Hey,” he said softly.
She heard a soft voice calling her, and she rapidly sat down upright. A soft, tired grin spread across her face. “What? No. I’m fine. I’m fine here.” She refused, out of fear of hurting him. He seemed so vulnerable, next to all of those machines. The room they were in was a pretty dark one, but not completely. This gave the place a much sadder look. She had forgotten how it felt like to be laying on one of those beds. He insisted, so she finally agreed. She took off her sneakers and put them on the floor, then she hopped on the bed. Very slowly and carefully. She took a deep breath, and snuggled closer to him. “Are you sure you are comfortable like this?” She asked, but they were both asleep before he could answer.
She woke up a few moments later, and for a brief second she wondered where she was. She gazed over at Alex and she remembered. She wished she hadn’t. A few moments before she opened her eyes, she had thought they were at home. A few moments before, for some reason, she hadn’t remembered what had happened that same day, and she had thought they were at home. She let a deep sigh slip away her mouth, and managed to smile briefly, remembering also that he was okay at the moment.
She shifted a few times before she finally opened her brown eyes and looked at Alex’s dark ones. “Oh, hey. You are awake.” She said, stroking his dark hair sweetly. She was still half-asleep. “How are you feeling?” She asked, smiling warmly. “You know what’s good? You won’t have to go to work for quite a few days after you get out of here. Oh, and I’ll be spoiling you 24/7.” Izzie still managed to get a good thing out of the whole situation. It was kind of her talent.
She turned slowly. “I’m so happy you are okay.” She admitted. She was chattier, probably because her nervs weren’t getting the best of her anymore and she had actually slept this time. She had rested, and she wasn’t tired anymore. She kissed his cheek softly. “You’ll definitely have to be more careful next time.” She added.

Bright Lights || Alex & Izzie
drfratboyalex:
Alex lied there, listening to the faint sound of his monitor and Izzie’s breaths. He observed her, watched her closely as she sat there in silence for a few moments, remembering something. He tried to decipher what thoughts were running through her head at that moment, but it was almost useless. He would never know what Izzie was thinking right then and there. He sighed and looked back at the wall as people continued walking by. He looked over at her once more and sighed. “I didn’t know I’d end up like this. I just went for a drink at Joe’s and I end up like this,” he said softly, in disbelief as he looked back over at Izzie’s worried face.
“I’m gonna be okay,” he told her again, wanting to give her as much reassurance as he could in that moment. “We’ll be okay,” he agreed, nodding his head as best as he could. Whenever Izzie spoke, she spoke softly and quietly. Part of him was thankful due to the fact that he had a horrible headache that was pulsing constantly. He felt himself slowly slip out of the pain meds and his body tense up. “Iz,” he said softly. “I need more meds,” he finally said, feeling the pain in his body become greater.
He tensed up his muscles and gripped onto the sides of the bed, but that only made it worse. He laid back and waited to see if it would pass, but it didn’t. It wasn’t until a nurse came up and began to pump the fluids throughout his body that he felt okay once more. He sighed in relief and laid there, shaky and sweaty due to pain his body had just given him. He let out a few shaky breaths before finally looking over at Izzie and saying, “This sucks.”
Alex finally calmed down when he felt the pain medication start to kick in. All he wanted was to go back when him and Izzie were laying in bed together just a few nights ago. He wanted to go back to when his arms were wrapped around her body and he felt the safest he had in years. For once, Alex had felt safe and happy. All of that was ruined now that he was laying in the ICU at Seattle Grace Mercy Death hospital. It was almost impossible to work here and be happy. Someone was always dying. Whether you know them or not, they were always dying. Alex closed his eyes briefly and slipped off into a sleep once more.
Izzie snapped out of her thoughts and offered him a tender smile. “Oh, sorry. I was- I was thinking.” Izzie tucked a long trail of her hair behind her ear, and placed her elbow over the side of his bed. “I know. I know, it was bad luck. Oh, And a stupid driver I would murder with my own two hands.” She rolled her eyes upwardly. “I know you will. I wouldn’t let you die on me.” Her gaze flickered around the room. The machines, the heart monitor, and then back to Alex. She nodded her head quickly, and stood up in a heartbeat to page the nurse. There was nothing Izzie hated more than seeing him in so much pain. “Okay, take deep breaths. Deep breaths.”
The nurse made her way to the room quickly, and pushed more meds on him. Izzie was shaking from head to toes. She was a doctor. A doctor. How could she be so scared? Luckily, her eyes weren’t watering anymore and she felt a little more comfortable around him. She stopped over-thinking and believing he would die in any minute. That, however, didn’t mean she wasn’t scared. She was scared to death. She sat down beside him one more time and listened to his quick, loud breathing. She caressed her hand, and then all the way up to his shoulder. “I know it does.”
Alex closed his eyes one more time and Izzie felt relieved. She let out a deep breath. She figured she’d need to talk to Shepherd about his condition, and Bailey, and whoever she needed to talk to. She had spoken to Alex and now she felt better. Calmer. Even though her heart was beating so fast she could have sworn it was just about to jump off her chest, she felt better. She didn’t want to leave him, but it was better to do so while he was still asleep. She stood up from the chair, and pressed a small kiss on his forehead. “I’ll be right back, okay?”
Shepherd updated her. Good news, not great ones, because you can’t expect great ones after your boyfriend got hit by a car, but good ones. Nobody guaranteed, however, that they’d stay as good news and not get worse later on. Shepherd seemed happy to see her back. But he was overwhelmed, just like her. Bailey informed her he had lost a lot of blood, so he’d be weak. She also mentioned his recovery wouldn’t be easy. The word recovery put a smile on Izzie’s face. It was good to talk about recovery, and not complications. The smile quickly slipped away, however, when she did talk about the possible complications along the way.
She returned to the room, without not finding a magazine to read first. She figured that way she’d stay awake. She wouldn’t let herself fall asleep again. She couldn’t anyways.
